The C.Lorenz AG is one of the pioneers of telegraph and teleprinter equipment producers in Germany.
Already, in first days of teleprinting they started producing typeprinting telegraph systems. (e.g. for the Berlin Police department around 1900, see photo right)
The production of 5-bit-Baudot teleprinter equipment started in 1929 due to a contract with the Kleinschmidt-Morkrum company, Chicago (later Teletype Corp.). The C.Lorenz AG bought licences and patents and started producing teleprinters that worked in order to the start-stop system.
The company's first machines were licences of Teletype model 14 and model 15.

The Lo133, built in the 1960s, was the first completely self designed machine. Also in the 1960s they changed name from C.Lorenz AG to SEL (Standard Electric Lorenz AG). In the 1980s bought by ALCATEL.
